BYOT Classroom Policy
Our classroom level has been approved as a Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) classroom! Students may bring their own technology devices to school and connect to the internet through the district’s network. Students will be permitted to bring personal laptops,
electronic tablets, e-book readers and other devices that can assist them with their academics. To participate in this opportunity, students and parents will be required to complete a student compact. Be on the lookout for a copy of the compact in your child's Cougar Folder.
If personal technology devices are used inappropriately, I will take them up, store them in a secure place, and return them to students at the end of the day. If a child’s device is consistently used inappropriately, the parents and child will meet with me to discuss the consequences and potential loss of the right to have a device.
If students would like to use sound on their device, they must provide their own headphones. Please do not send ear buds to school as those can be harmful to our students' hearing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are students going to be playing games on their devices?
The purpose of this opportunity is educational. The students will be able to use their devices daily for creating projects, research, and for review and practice
Do I need to buy my child a device to bring to school?
Students are not required to bring in their own devices. Students now have the option to do so if they
(and you) desire. We will continue to provide all students with access to computers and/or other technological devices.
Will my child be sharing the device with other students?
Personal technology devices will be for personal use and will not be shared with other students.
Will my child get to use the device everyday?
Although, there will be opportunities to use devices on most days, usage is not guaranteed. Think of it like a favorite book. A student may bring the book, and
we would like for the students to get a chance read it, but other educational activities may take precedence.
Will my child get to take the device outside or to other classes?
The devices will not be used anywhere in the building except in the classroom.
What happens to the device when the students are not in the classroom?
When we are not in the classroom the device will be stored and the classroom will be locked.
